About Trey Kirby

Why Trey Kirby is the Best Choice for Ward 5

The Importance of Listening to the Community

A thriving city is built on trust, collaboration, and open communication. As a candidate for Norman City Council, I believe the best decisions are made when community voices are heard and respected. Too often, important choices are made without fully considering the people they impact, weakening trust between residents and local government.

I am committed to being present, accessible, and open to dialogue whether through neighborhood conversations, community forums, or direct communication. By listening to residents and working together, we can make better decisions, support responsible growth, and strengthen the connection between City Hall and the people it serves.

Trey Kirby is more than a candidate for Ward 5—he is a longtime member of the Norman community who understands the challenges and opportunities residents face. As a rancher and small business owner, Trey brings real-world experience, practical problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic to public service. He isn’t running for office for recognition; he’s stepping up to ensure Ward 5 is heard and respected.

Trey’s leadership is grounded in logic, fairness, and listening first. He has consistently stood up for Ward 5 by opposing invasive Oklahoma Turnpike Authority plans and advocating for responsible growth that protects Norman’s character. Trey believes progress should benefit the people who live here and he’s committed to transparency, accountability, and common-sense governance.

Protecting Our Heritage and Our Homes

Norman’s identity is rooted in its homes, land, and long-established neighborhoods. These are not just properties they represent livelihoods, memories, and generations of commitment to this community. For many families, including my own, this is deeply personal. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s actions puts those foundations at risk by advancing plans that fail to respect the people who live here.

I oppose the use of eminent domain to force families from their homes or take land against the will of property owners. Government should protect individual rights, not override them. When agencies rely on eminent domain as a planning tool instead of a last resort, trust is broken and communities suffer. I believe Norman must take a clear stand: our homes, land, and heritage are worth defending, and no project should move forward at the expense of our residents’ rights.
